The Web - second information medium of Quebec Internet after television
"Internet comes even first position as an information source in three groups: young 25 to 34 years ( 46% of them inform first Internet ), the university graduates (42%) and anglophones and allophones (40%) . "
On Dec. 26 I published a note saying: "... a survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press informs us that the web has surpassed all other media, except TV, as a source of national and international news for Americans.
The growth rate of the medium web is astronomical whereas 40% of Americans say they get most of their information via the web while in September 2007 there were only 24%.
It should be noted here that the main difference is that the U.S. survey was not done only to users but to the general population.
The authors of the Quebec study has provided the coup by informing us that:
"This survey SOM / CONNECT-VOUS.com was conducted among Internet users only. However, as SOM was measured, moreover, that 68% of adult Quebecers "personally used the Internet" in 2008, we can extrapolate the results by estimating a five-Québec adult uses the Internet today as the first sourced'information . "
Moreover, the survey adds a very interesting angle when the credibility of the web as a source of info:
" Despite its place in the information, the web still suffers a credibility gap. television, radio and newspapers are very credible in the eyes of Quebec Internet since 77% of respondents said they very or somewhat confident in information conveyed by these media, while 23% they make little or no confidence. Internet is a credible source for the majority of its users, since 54% are very or somewhat confident in the information they find there, but 46% have little or no confidence in the Internet as an information source. "
The detailed survey results are available to www.branchez-vous.com/som
Update: Guylaine L'Heureux @ Chagot via Twitter said, unclear whether information from the windows web media, which would change the results. Gentlemen, ladies connect, and SOM ... Did you this level of detail, including where on the web, the info is taken by the Internet?

The "marketers" do not measure the results of their campaigns online

Marketing Charts tells us that over 50% of marketers do not use analysis tools for their online campaigns ... What sad news!
It seems that the old dogs will not learn new tricks and old Marketers used to spend huge amounts of $ on advertising without being able to measure the impact of continuing to invest precious dollars without bothering to measure results so that's one of the strengths of internet marketing.
Also 62% plan to increase their spending on internet marketing ... No thinking, just sheep who follow the trends! Finally, to top it off, 20% of respondents said their website was only "basic" and not central to their marketing activities.
might as well be inconsistent!
Unfortunately this may hinder understanding of the power of internet marketing because many will not put the $ in the right place and so will be disappointed. It is high time that our profession will be a duty to plan, measure, fit, etc.. ROI Marketing should not be the exception but the rule.
